Kroatien - Bootstrip nach Hvar und Brac

 Luxus-Ausflugsdampfer, früher mal Fischerboot. Passen locker 300 Leute drauf. Unser Gefährt für den obligatorischen Ausflug auf die Inseln Hvar und Brac. Juchu, inklusive Fischfüttung für Touris! Wir haben fast jeden Tag frischen gebratenen Fisch gegessen. Ich habe bestimmt genug Omega-3 Fettsäuren für das nächste Jahr.

Luxury pleasure boat, former fisher boat. Takes in 300 people. Our vehicle for the mandatory trip to the islands Hvar and Brac. Hooray, including fish feed for hungry tourists! We ate fresh fish almost every day. I think I consumed enough Omega-3 fatty acid for the whole year.

 Gut vorbereitet für das Abenteuer? Naja, eigentlich hatte ich nur am Tag vorher einen kleinen Hitzschlag bekommen und keine Lust auf noch mehr Kopfschmerzen.

Well-prepared for the adventure? Partly, I was mostly recovering from a minor sun stroke from the day before and not ready for any more headache.

Die Matrosen haben uns ein lustiges Spiel beigebracht: Man hält seinen Fischkopf hoch, bis eine Möwe vorbei kommt und sie aus der Hand schnappt. Das hat meiner Angst vor Vögeln noch einen Albtraum hinzugefügt.                                  The sailors teached us a fun game: Hold up the head of the fish you ate until a seagull flies by and catches it. That added one more nightmare to my fear of birds!

 

 Auf der Insel Brac. Das sieht vielleicht zu sehr nach Touristen aus. Was soll's. Ich werde wohl kaum verbergen können, dass ich nicht aus Kroatien stamme.

Kroatien - Makarska

 Makarska, das Zentrum der Gegend. Guckt mal, die Berge - was für ein Panorama!

Charmante Altstadt. Charming old city.

 Na das kenn ich doch irgendwo her. Der Trend setzt sich durch und kommt wahrscheinlich mal wieder aus Japan. Es hingen hunderte von diesen Schlössern.

Well, we saw that before, right? This fashion is coming to every country and let me guess, from Japan again? It must have been hundreds of locks.

Kroatien - host parents

 Kroatien wurde 1991 unabhängig, leider nicht ohne blutige Konflikte mit Jugoslawien. Seitdem versucht das Land wirtschaftlich zu wachsen und besdonders der Tourismussektor trägt massgeblich dazu bei.  Voraussichtlich 2013 wird Kroatien der EU beitreten.

Croatia declared independence in 1991, which was only possible through a bloody War of Indepence with Yugoslavia. Since then the country tries to build up its own economy, which is mostly growing through tourism. Croatia is expected to join the EU in 2013.

 Links unsere Gastgeberin, die uns mehr oder weniger adoptiert hat. Hier sind wir bei ihren Eltern eingeladen. Wir haben uns meist mit einer Mischung aus Deutsch-Russisch-Englisch und Zeichensprache verständigt.

This is our host mom who so to speak adopted us. Here we were invited over to her parents house. Mostly we communicated with a mix of German, Russian, English and gestures.

Das ist eine Nichte des Hauses. Ich hab das russische Wort "ulibka" (Lächeln) probiert und sie hat michverstanden.

This is a niece of the house. i used the Russian word "ulibka" (smile) and she understood.

Kroatien - Podgora

 Scheinbar hat in Kroatien jeder ein Boot. Aber es liegt die meiste Zeit im Hafen. Man benutzt es nur ab und zu um es an Touristen zu verleihen, mit der Familie abzuhängen, Fische zu erschrecken, zu versteckten Buchten zu fahren und anzugeben.

Obviously everybody in Croatia owns a boat. Most of the time they don't use it, but if they do, only to rent it to tourists, go on a trip with family, scare the fish, to go to hidden beaches and to show off.

 Naja, oder man geht fischen. 90 % der Männer im Dorf sind natürlich Fischer.

Well, or you go fishing. 90% of all men in the village are of course fischermen.

Yeah, ich hab den heißesten Typen an der ganzen Küste gefunden. Wirklich heiß, saß wohl zu lange in der Sonne.

Yeah, I found the hottest guy of Croatia. Really hot, was maybe sitting in the sun for too long.

Kroatien - Igrane

Ein reiner Strandurlaub ist eh nichts für uns, also machten wir uns auf den Weg durch nicht enden wollende Olievenhaine. Unsere Gasteltern stellen sowohl Olivenöl, als auch Wein selber her.

Only beach is way to boring, that's why we started our way through endless olive groves. Our host parents produce their own olive oil and wine.

 Kroatien hat auch im Spätsommer noch täglich über 30 Grad. Das Klima lässt die Früchte zu Süigkeiten reifen. Diese Brombeeren zerquetschen im Mund zu einem See von Süße.

Croatia has over 90° F, even in late summer. The climate turns every fruit into a treat. Those blackberries splashed into puddles of sweetness in our mouthes.

Diese Sorte von Feigen bleibt grün, auch wenn sie reif sind. Ich brauche eigentlich nur Feigen uns Sonne zum Leben. Ich habe jeden Tag bestimmt 30 Stück direkt vom Baum gegessen. Manu war so genervt, weil ich einfach nicht vorbei gehen konnte.

This sort of figs stays green even when they are ripe. I only need figs and sun for happiness. Every day I ate more than 30 of them just off the tree. Manuela was on the edge because I couln't pass a tree without looking for a treat.

Igrane ist ein etwas größerer Fischerort, etwa 3 km von unserem Urlaubsort entfernt, aber deutlich touristischer ausgerichtet. Schöne alte Häuser.

Igrane is just 3 km (2 mi) from our little village. Also a fishermen village it was way more touristy, but with beautiful old houses.

Kroatien - Drasnice

 In diesem kleinen Ort namens Drasnice in Kroatien sollten sich alle unsere Träume erfüllen. Direkt von diesen beeindruckenden Bergen ging es hinab ins klare Mittelmeer.

In this little village called Darsnice in Croatia all our dreams came true. At the foot of high mountains we stepped into clear water of the Adriatic Sea.

 Obwohl noch mehrere Insels uns den Blick nach Italien versperrten, waren wir doch überwältigt von der Weite.

Although several islands covered our view to Italy we were stunned by the wide view on the Sea.

 Ich habe mich so in die kleinen Gässchen verliebt. Jeden Sommer wird aus dem 300-Seelen-Dorf ein 3000-Seelen-Ort für die Ferienzeit. Zu unserem großen Glück haben wir keine anderen Deutschen getroffen. Die meisten Urlauber waren Polen oder Tschechen.

I fell in love with the little alleys. Every summer during holiday season the little village of 300 people grows to a place of 3000 people. To our full happiness we didn't meet any other Germans. All other tourist were from Poland or Czech Republic.

Das Wasser war so unglaublich klar, dass man bis zu 20 Meter in die Tiefe sehen konnte. Dafür gab es leider auch keinen feinen Sandstrand sondern nur Kieselsteine. Das tut ganz schön an den Füßen weh. Dafür haben wir uns gefühlt, wie auf den Malediven.  


The water was so incredibly clear that we could look like 20 m into the deep. Croatia has no sand beaches, but pebbles. The pebbles hurt the feet. But we felt like on the Maledive Islands.

 Wir können zwar kein Kroatisch, aber das diese Einladung nach Spaß aussieht haben wir trotzdem verstanden. Die Kroaten sind ein wirklich gastfreundliches und herzliches Volk.

We donät understand Croatian language, but this invitation sounds like fun. The people in Croatia are very hospitable and friendly.

 Die Nacht wurde von den Fischern ausgerichtet und es gab Live-Musik und viele fröhliche Menschen.

The fishermen did a great job in preparing the night for us and we celebrated with live music and lots of happy people.

So ein kleiner Ort und so viele freundliche Menschen.
